They were able to work me in without an appointment then call me with the diagnosis and plan of repair later in the day. The AC compressor clutch had gone out. They will not repair the clutch alone one a car with my mileage (140,000) since it is likely that the compressor led to the failure and would probably have to be changed after the clutch was changed and run. They will not replace a compressor without also changing out several other parts that might have gotten damaged from the failing compressor, eg condenser (my van has a front and rear condenser for rear AC). The estimate was $2400. Just about what the van is worth wholesale. They could have just replaced the compressor (comes with clutch) and risked another part failure which would bring me back for another repair, over and over. Instead explained the entire situation to me and charged me nothing. Ordered the compressor on Amazon (about half the cost of what the auto parts places wanted for it) and getting a shade tree mechanic to replace it for me. Total cost about $400. I hope it lasts a while.

He was honest about the process, fully explained his basic cost and found that a prior repair had failed to connect an 02 sensor. Once that was corrected, there were still a few issues with re-setting the ECM and it took several attempts and drive cycles to get the codes re-set. Rich was patient and took the time to check the check engine codes multiple times. Each time, he provided guidance on what might be popping up due to misfires and a few other issues. After several drive cycles, Rich was able to perform a final test and the truck passed the inspection. I am very pleased with Rich and his team a Machado's and highly recommend his service. Having experienced bad service in the past, I can say that my experience with Rich was a pleasure and I will be taking my vehicles back to Machado's in the future.

• ★★★★★ I use to be a loyal customer at Machado's. No more. I am writing this today because I am going over all of the invoices from Machado's that I have accumulated over the years. May of 2009 they replaced my water pump, then in June of 2009 they replaced my water pump - a water pump does not go bad in one month, I called them on it but they did not reimburse me, then I found a charge for a WASHER pump, a $20.00 part at most, they charged $221 for labor and $571.24 for parts, oh but they also replaced the ac control and repaired wiring to control the temp sensor. Funny thing is, the windshield washer fluid still doesn't work. Then there is my driver side door, which at this writing is in another shop being fixed because after being charged over $1,000 again, the door was not fixed properly. Looks like I have to have a new door which will cost over $500 for door and $300 to $400 labor. In September 2011, I took my car in because it had an oil leak and, I was getting ready for a trip to Florida, so the car needed to be in good repair. Over $1,000 later, the leak was supposedly fixed. While driving down the freeway in Clearview, Florida, the car just stopped. Lucky for me I have good insurance and they were able to rescue me off the freeway and tow my car to a shop in Clearview. Guess what, the engine was void of oil. NO OIL!!! I had to put a new motor in the car, $4,000. I called Machado's and Greg acted like they were not responsible at all. He could have offered to help pay for the new motor. Perhaps they have improved since my bad experiences but I will not go back to find out.

Besides the needed work for an State Inspection pass, the diagnostics provided by Machado's's mechanic said I needed significant front end work repair that included replacement of upper and lower control arms, sway bar Link/Kit and both stabilizer Bar Control Links for a significant amount of money. To be prudent and follow due diligence, I took the car into my regular mechanic who said that the sway bar link/kit and stabilizer bar control links needed to be replaced, but everything else (upper and lower Control Arms) was tight and good. Their charge for repairs was a fraction of the cost that Machado's wanted to charge. To be fair, I did not share the diagnostics that Machado's provided with my regular car service mechanic, so that they could arrive at their own conclusions.

The cover moved during car movement. Apparently broke the cover mount peg at some point in the process. Ieplaced the engine cover but with only two mounts remaining. Seems to be secure at this point. You replaced the oil and fixed the leak and cleaned up the spilled oil okay, I forgot to mention the engine cover issue when I came back in to have the leak fixed at your shop. I researched the leak source issue and found it to be a common fail issue with the VW Passat. I believe that a professional service center should also know that and take measuses to assure it did not happen.
